Mathushaa Sagthidas is an award-winning Tamil-British photographer working across portraiture, fashion and documentary, with a practice rooted in people, identity and lived experience. She has collaborated with leading global brands and cultural institutions, including Adidas, Amazon, GUAP and the Royal Court Theatre, and her work has been exhibited at Tate Britain, Royal Greenwich Museums and The Photographer’s Gallery.

At the core of Mathushaa’s work is a deeply collaborative, community-led approach to portraiture. Influenced by her parents’ experiences during the Sri Lankan Civil War, she is drawn to stories that sit between personal and collective histories, creating images that foreground authenticity, emotional depth and representation. Her photography invites subjects to be seen on their own terms, resisting stereotypes and dominant narratives.

Her widely recognised series Not Just Brown, Not Just Indian exemplifies this approach, offering nuanced portrayals of South Asian identity in Britain. The project has been featured across major publications, national billboard campaigns and multiple solo exhibitions, establishing Mathushaa as a vital voice in contemporary British photography.
